At first all Etruscan words were names
Author: Igor Pirnovar

Since majority of the Etruscan words discovered were mostly related in some way to the texts of sepulchral nature, it was not surprising that Etruscologists at first believed the words found in those settings represented the names of the deceased, or the names of the donors of the sacrificial or some kind of ceremonial gifts.

Unfortunately, this belief continues to this day, and is partially to blame for a rather silly translations of much longer and later discovered texts, found after many words were officially accepted as meaningless names, as lists of people mentioned in some legal or similar documents. Hence one can argue the Etruscologists have done an excellent job, identifying a large number of Etruscan words as names. They have even discovered a pattern, by which it is possible to identify whether a name is a family name, a personal male or a female name. We'll look at some of these "name theories" after the table of all names, I to date discovered, Etruscologists defined as some kind of a name.
